Hochschule Luzern – Design Film Kunst (Lucerne School of Design, Film and Art) is the design and arts department of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), part of FH Zentralschweiz. With a teaching tradition spanning over 140 years, the school positions itself around the line “Die Zukunft gehört den Pionieren” — the future belongs to pioneers who challenge existing paradigms across design, film, and art. Within the CCI Network the department is represented by Christoph Schindler, who heads the Bachelor Object Design programme.
The school offers thirteen distinct Bachelor pathways in design, film, and art, complemented by Master programmes, a preparatory Gestalterischer Vorkurs, and workplace-integrated continuing education (Berufsbegleitende, Short Advanced Studies). Its Werkstätten — dedicated workshops for hands-on technical and material work — anchor a teaching culture in which making and reflection sit side by side. Research runs as interdisciplinary investigation across design, film, and artistic methodologies, increasingly in dialogue with emerging fabrication and digital technologies.
