Marc Schmailzl is a research associate and PhD candidate at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture at OTH Regensburg, where he works on end-to-end robotic fabrication workflows in the Building Lab (Prof. Linner) and CyberCraft Lab (Prof. Barlieb). He holds a master’s degree in architecture from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and studied at the Tongji University in Shanghai for a year. Afterwards he worked as a research associate at the chair for building realization and construction robotics (Prof. Bock) and joined OTH Regensburg as a research associate in 2022.
Moreover, in 2024 he completed a research stay at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s (CUHK) Institute of Automation under Prof. Darwin Lau, as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie MAIA project on collaborative robotic construction.
Within the CyberCraft Kolleg (CCK) he acts as a coach guiding students through the cybercraft approach in a series of interdisciplinary seminars focusing on BIM, parametric and computational design as well as robotic crafting methods.
His doctoral work focuses on enabling end-to-end robotic fabrication workflows for the construction industry, as well as trades (SMEs) and is part of the OTH Doctoral Centre for Integral Construction (PZIB).
